Today I received an e-mail letting me know of the finished project condensing a number of sources into an official record of the Waldo Canyon 2012 Fire.
They only used a few of my pictures and videos, but I was happy to provide them with at least some source material. Some of the up-close footage of the fire is worth seeing, and the whole thing offers a lot of details of the tragic event.
The link to the finished project is here:

For those who might still be interested, or have not seen my recap, you can find it here:

This year is shaping up to be another year where fires might be a constant danger. We are still under a drought, and are still below normal for precipitation.

Please, if you are considering bestowing me some recognition beyond commenting below, refrain from doing so. I will decline nominations whereby one blogger bestows an award onto another blogger, or group of bloggers. I appreciate the intent behind it, but I would much prefer a comment thanking me for turning you away from a life of crime, religion, or making you a better person in some other way. That would actually mean something to me.
Should you still nominate me, I will strongly suspect you pulled my name at random, and that you are not, in fact, a reader of my blog. If you wish to know more, please read below.

. . . my FP ward . . . chieken shit.

A really terrifying sight. One I hope you never see again.
I share the hope, but we will also be ready to book, just in case.
We are worried in our neck of the woods too. What started out rather promisingly has become one of the driest winters on record.
Yeah, and I say that even as a blizzard is raging outside (9-12 inches predicted).
However, this is very localized, and will hit my area and to the East. Just 8 miles down the road, they’re expecting at most 4 inches, and will likely get less.
People are already apprehensive as they see signs of an early spring (birds and weather).
Yep. Same here.
Wild fires are terrifying and I hope none of us ever has to go through that again. Unfortunately, it is an annual event here. This winter has been extremely dry so I’m am afraid this will be a bad fire season. I hope I’m wrong.
We can hope for a wet spring, but in the 8 years I’ve lived here, I’ve only seen one . . . followed by three months of no rain. It does not look good.
One can only hope that this fire was the exception and not a norm to be repeated. And I thought your contribution of photos and videos a real asset for the authorities. I might be Pollyanna in my outlook, but weather patterns do fluctuate so . . . let’s hope your area reverts back to normal . . . and rapidly.
Unfortunately, that is in fact a bit Pollyannish . . . it may well be that drought breaks this year, but there are no indications of it. Reservoirs are low, and we are still under for precipitation for the season.
And yes, things change and fluctuate . . . but large scale fluctuation have longer periodic swings.
That said, we’ll keep hoping we get enough moisture . . . we have a blizzard outside right now, but they have already reduced the predicted snowfall from 17-20 inches, to 8-12 inches, and I doubt we’ll get even the lower number.
