Here’s the WordPress prepared 2012 review:
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 20,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 5 Film Festivals
Click here to see the complete report.
I’m never really pleased with the reports WordPress provides, but I guess it helps break the ice.
It does tell me there were 225 posts in 2012 . . . except I had a couple after that report, and then there’s this post. Or do the numbers update automatically?
The Stats page tells me I have 158 followers. I’m pretty certain the majority of those never stop by.
The report tells me there were 20,000 views this year (nearly five time the views I had last year), but as they just added the option to track actual visitors, the number of visitors is likely much less. My other widget tells me I had 8, 754 visitors since March 5th of this year. They apparently track unique visits, but I don’t know for sure.
. . . I still wish I could turn on Google Analytics . . . they track the crap out of stuff . . .
Regardless, I want to use this post to highlight a few posts that I liked. Of course, my tastes run different than those of other people. These will be in chronological order.
Galveston Bay Birds – I’m a sucker for birds. The photos are from the previous year, but it was posted this year, so . . .
PATH 003 – Photos Around The House: Grandfather’s Binoculars – I poured a lot of work into this post. I like the photos, and I like the post. As a side note, I mentioned before how objects, and photographs, are appreciated as much for their emotional tie, or memories they evoke, as for their intrinsic character. This was very much true with these binoculars. Just last week I saw similar binoculars for sale at an antique shop. I had no desire to buy them, even as interesting as they looked.
Late January 2012 Red-tailed Hawk - These were probably my favorite Red Tailed Hawk photos of the year.
My first trip out west – 2002 – The Fauna – details the animals I photographed during my first visit to Yellowstone. I still have to document my other visits.
The Air Zoo of Kalamazoo – 2004 Snapshot – probably my favorite airplane museum.
The Ice Man Leaveth – The first of the macro ice shots.
The Two Hours Drives – Part 1: The Hawks and The Silo – Wait . . . this has a couple of neat shots of Red Tailed hawks as well . . . hmmmm . . . which is my favorite?
Flash Fiction No. 10 – The Writing Prompt – one of the writing prompts I am particularly proud of.
The Devil is in the Details – this was fun to write. Perhaps few others liked it, but this is my list.
Flowers of Days Past – another blended layers post.
Racquetball . . . it was a good run – closing chapter on what was a significant part of my life.
Barr Lake State Park – Colorado – another one that was fun to write (bad memories though – hurt my lens).
Mega-Update – I like this one for the shots of the Tree Swallows stretching.
The Birds of Late May – 2012 – it’s birds; what else need I say?
More Flowers – 2012 – the first significant flower post of 2012. Got bugs, too.
Storm Clouds – June 2012 – neat; just neat. I do like me cloud photos. Should do more of them.
Waldo Canyon Fire – Colorado – A Recap – another “large effort” post. Still looks surreal. Here’s to hoping for no repeat in 2013.
The Bugs of June 2012 – the first of the bug posts.
The Birds and the Bees – June 2012 – it’s birds . . . and bees. Some of my better shots.
Mount Evans – The Woods – wood textures and scenery; what’s not to like.
Mount Evans – Alpine Flowers – the name says it all. That one trip gave me a lot of material, and it would be easy to highlight all the related posts.
Wow! You Like Me! You Really Like Me!! – Hey! . . . I won something!
High ISO Hummers – were a bunch of marginal shots turned out to be a fun little project.
My Photo-Walk – July 2012 – another significant effort, both in the shooting, and in the preparing for publication.
Salsify Redux – 2012 – this did not get much love, but I be liking it.
Writing Prompt – Thoughts in the Wind – another writing prompt I’m proud of.
Tree Swallows – 2012 Edition – Tree Swallows in their glory.
The Big Dump 2012- The Bugs Edition – the Big Dump was my attempt to catch up with the photos . . . foolish, foolish me. This is about the bugs I photographed in my numerous bug safaris.
The Big Dump 2012 – The Hummers – the title speaks for itself.
The Guest – one of my contributions for the Legends Undying blog (I’m the Monday contributor). I like what I wrote, and it’s not just because I weaved Firefly into the plot.
Thanksgiving 2012 – Writing Prompts Summary – this is here for them who might want a single link to all my writing prompts to date.
The Blood – Torin, Complete – One of my major writing efforts of the year.
Woodland Park Fox and Deer – 2012 – some of the better Fox photos I’ve shot.
Alaska Cruise – 2012 – Part III – Ketchikan, Still – this is a bit recent . . . it’s the previous post, but I really like the photos, and I had fun writing it.
So, there you have it. A short (or long, depending on your point of view) trip down memory lane.
I look forward to providing more stuff for people to use as an escape from the toils of life. FSM knows we need it, and I am no different.
Have a safe and joyous New Year’s Eve celebration.

Please, if you are considering bestowing me some recognition beyond commenting below, refrain from doing so. I will decline nominations whereby one blogger bestows an award onto another blogger, or group of bloggers. I appreciate the intent behind it, but I would much prefer a comment thanking me for turning you away from a life of crime, religion, or making you a better person in some other way. That would actually mean something to me.
Should you still nominate me, I will strongly suspect you pulled my name at random, and that you are not, in fact, a reader of my blog. If you wish to know more, please read below.

Note: to those who may click on “like”, or rate the post; if you do not personally hear from me, know that I am sincerely appreciative, and I thank you for noticing what I do.
. . . my FP ward . . . chieken shit.

It was a very good year, indeed!!!
Thanks.
You really do great blogging. Yours have so much content. All the best for 2013 for you & yours! And your blog!
Thanks . . . it’s nice having people notice.
But it is a two-edged sword. Long posts don’t fit well with the “take-a-single-glance-and-lose-interest” crowd. Most people don’t bother beyond reading a paragraph or two, and looking at a few of the photos.
Still, I write and post what I like reading . . . and assume there are a few others in that same vein.
Better late then never . . .
Cin-cin to many wonderful words and glorious photos in 2013!
P.S. Hey, got in 231 comments . . . but that’s not really accurate since I entered some this year for posts of 2012 . . . won’t make that mistake in 2013!
Happy, happy shooting and writing!
