This is a new thing I plan on doing. I call it PATH, short for Photos Around The House. By that I mean from inside my house, not around the outside perimeter of the house.
This first post documents the currently flowering plants in my house. The picture above is from a succulent plant I bought over a year ago.
When I purchased this plant it had small bright white flowers on it. It then went through a growth spurt lasting over a year. I had to finally cut it back some, and now, a month later, it’s sprouting flower buds again.
But, this time around they are pinkish flowers. Go figure!
Our Christmas Cactus flowers about once a month. Based on everything I read, it’s not supposed to. I guess no one told it to chill.
I really like these flowers. They have a translucent quality to them; a texture that reminds me of satin. Both the color and texture are difficult to capture exactly. If you have a color-corrected monitor, this is pretty close to what they look like. And the following picture (from above) is probably the best to show the texture of the flower (click on the picture, or any picture, to go to the SmugMug gallery).
Because it’s hard to capture that much depth of field with the macro lens, I employed the old Blended Layers technique. Six pictures, all focused at a different depth, all blended into a composite with a large depth of field. Or so I hope.
One more of the succulent plant flower. I should probably get the name of it as people with poor vocabularies probably think I’m saying something filthy when I use the word “succulent”.
Well, that’s it for this post. I hope to do more like this, each dealing with stuff around my house. I have enough subject to probably keep me busy for a while.

Nice!
Thanks, Sandy. I like the idea of live flowers in the house in the middle of winter.
Lovely my Christmas cactus only sends out her display once a year. You must be doing something right.

It goes beyond just being a pretty pink! All the photos of the Christmas Cactus are great but the view from the top takes it to new heights.
It’s working on new flowers . . . they might or my not bloom (sometimes the buds fall off unopened), but if they do, more pictures a-coming.
